I’ve heard really good things about Takahashi, and Scurll himself has been having a hell of a year. This is a battle of the NJPW Junior Heavyweight champion versus the ROH World Television champion. I think we know who’s jobbing regardless. Hint: it’s not the NJPW wrestler.
We get some shenanigans involving the umbrella as Takahashi threatens and then does in fact lick it. Scurll wails Takahashi with it and the bell rings. That was unexpected. The intensity of this match is much higher than the previous two bouts. Scurll is a pretty charismatic dude, but Takahashi oozes it from the moment he walks out. This is about the cerebral and intelligent wrestling style versus Takahashi’s agility and quickness. Takahashi DOES THE DEAL but only gets two. Exchange of superkicks. Scurll hits a lariat and counters a brainbuster. They end up on the outside of the ring. Scurll hits a snap suplex on the entranceway. Scurll charges but gets hit with a superkick. Takahashi is shooting up the superkick counter even before the Young Bucks have a chance to wrestle. Chickenwing applied. Takahashi stays alive and reaches the bottom rope just in time. Overhead throw sends Scurll into the corner. Time Bomb only gets two. DVD into the corner and then a second Time Bomb gets Takahashi the victory
Easily the best match of the show so far as these two actually brought it and this came off like a much more even match than the Goto/Gibson match. Them wrestling as equals made for a much more engaging and epic feeling match.
