This is a first time ever match and yet another LOLROH match.
Lee’s prematch promo is pretty great, very relaxed and chill. Given Lee’s fast rising star in Evolve and this being O’Reilly’s debut, it would be hard for me to justify either guy losing. O’Reilly said he never should have left Evolve recently on Twitter. Given how lean Evolve was at times, he was probably better off in Ring of Honor from 2011 until his recent departure. It’s amazing to think he’ll have the shortest ROH title reign in history, but at this point, staying in ROH is pointless.
O’Reilly emphasizes his quickness early on, but Lee breaks out a spinning lariat kick out nowhere. Lee tries getting O’Reilly to bask in his glory, but O’Reilly is able to take things to the mat. He takes turns working over the leg and arm. Lee hits a belly-to-belly suplex and doesn’t even move with him. Nice flurry of offense by O’Reilly as he’s certainly in the mood to work In this match. Back suplex but Lee falls on top. Lee staggers around after having his leg worked over. Huge lariat. The construction of this match has been pretty tremendous. Running knee crumbles Lee through the barricade. Missile dropkick met with a pounce. Huge powerbomb only gets two. Lee climbs to the top for the moonsault attempt. O’Reilly kicks his leg. An “accidental low blow” leads to the official ringing the bell. This was actually a great opportunity to get out of a bad booking choice.
Lee doesn’t watch the match to end with a disqualification. O’Reilly attacks right at the restart. Armbar but Lee gets to the ropes. Superbomb but O’Reilly kicks out. Lee again gets a bit too cocky and pays for it. Tilt a whirl DDT leads to a brainbuster and a win for O’Reilly. Personally, I think this is the wrong choice given how over Lee is and what a win like this would mean for him.
