About ten years ago, these two had one of the greatest tag team title matches in the history of Ring of Honor. It is almost universally acclaimed for how innovative and action packed it was. Shelley and Sabin are sadly pale versions of themselves.
The Briscoes are treated with huge respect in the booking, but they’re almost parodies of themselves. This battle is taken a bit more serious than usual as this is the rubber match from a rivalry that started 10 years ago. Give credit to all four men for turning it on and trying to hit the same notes as they did a decade ago. We see some excellent double teams from the Guns as they work over Jay Briscoe pretty extensively. Sabin accidentally superkicks his partner, and Jay is able to make the hot tag to Mark. He comes in and hits a blockbuster on Sabin. Brawl goes into the crowd for NO REASON! The idea of these two teams was about scientific and athletic style wrestling, and this crowd brawl feels purposeless and unnecessary. Back in the ring and the two teams take turns double teaming each other. I was very much enjoying everything before the crowd brawl and everything that happened after, but that middle segment was frustrating. Sabin hits the hesitiation dropkick on Shelley. Jaydriller on Sabin. Froggy Bow ends the match.
