2017 16 Carat Tournament Quarterfinal: Ilja Dragunov vs. Timothy Thatcher (wXw- 2017 16 Carat Tournament Night Two- March 11, 2017)

Dragunov has to conquer the giant hoss Robert Dreissker the night before and he’s basically wrestling someone completely different. Thatcher again shows more intensity than typical Evolve shows. Dragunov goes for a chop, and Thatcher cockily waves him away. Thatcher tries wearing Dragunov down by working over the arm. Dragunov tries coming off the top rope and dives right into an uppercut. Dragunov hits a senton after being worked on the mat for a bit. Thatcher drops Dragunov in a gutwrench suplex. You can see the physical as they wear down and resort to just going for clotheslines on each other. Butterfly suplex into a two count. Thatcher applies for a fujiwara armbar. Thatcher headbutts Dragunov’s jaw. Torpedo Moscow hits and Dragunov gets a pretty big upset win. Tremendously physical and enjoyable bout. He really came off like a huge star in this bout.

Winner (s)/Rating: Ilja Dragunov/***1/2
